(ABC 6 News) — The tentative peace deal between the U.S. and Iran may be coming too late for President Trump to recover from slumping approval ratings, according to the latest KSTP/SurveyUSA poll.
The deal signed by the U.S. and Iran kicks off a 60-day period of negotiations for a final deal to end the war. For a majority of Minnesotans, that end cannot come soon enough.
According to the new poll, President Trump’s decision to go to war with Iran has just a 30% approval rating in the North Star State.
65% of people disapprove while 6% are not sure.
“The war has not been popular in Minnesota, and of course Trump hopes the conclusion of the war will improve his standing nationally and in the state,” said Steven Schier, a political analyst for Carleton College.
The war caused inflation to steadily increase over the past few months, led by a huge jump in gas prices.
It’s also likely responsible for the lowest approval rating we’ve recorded for President Trump.
36% approve of the president’s overall performance with 60% disapproving.
Although President Trump is not on the ballot this fall, Schier said he could be a drag on other Republicans in Minnesota who will be on the ballot.
