President Donald Trump’s approval rating among registered voters has slipped to a new second term low, a poll from NBC News shows on Sunday.
Shifts in approval and disapproval ratings could signal broader erosion and complicate the Republican Party’s midterm strategies this year, especially as multiple trackers show Trump significantly underwater nationally.
Recent nationwide polling indicates that public confidence in Trump’s handling of the economy has also fallen. According to a recent YouGov/The Economist poll, only 29 percent of Americans say they strongly or somewhat approve of Trump’s management of the economy, while 63 percent disapprove.
The new poll comes amid Trump’s handling of Iran and foreign policy, and previously rising gasoline prices across the country.
Newsweek reached out to the White House via email on Sunday night for comment.
According to the poll, among registered voters, the president’s approval rating is 42 percent versus a 57 percent disapproval rating. His approval rating among all adults is 39 percent versus a 58 percent disapproval rating.
The poll surveyed 2,400 registered voters from May 29 to June 7, 2026, and has a margin of error of 2 percent.
The survey notes that Trump’s approval rating with the pollster in March was 44 percent, 43 percent in October, and 47 percent in a poll taken in March of last year.
Trump’s approval rating among Latinos is 34 percent versus a 64 percent disapproval rating, according to the poll. Those ranging in age from 18-years-old to 29-years-old approve of Trump 21 percent versus 77 percent who disapprove.

Trump’s approval rating among independents has also slipped to an all-time low, a poll from YouGov/The Economist released earlier this month showed. It is notable as Independents often determine close elections.
When reached for comment about the earlier poll, the White House previously sent Newsweek a repeatedly used statement from spokesman Davis Ingle: “The ultimate poll was November 5th 2024 when nearly 80 million Americans overwhelmingly elected President Trump to deliver on his popular and commonsense agenda. No other President in history has accomplished more for the American people than President Trump, who is working tirelessly to create jobs, cool inflation, increase housing affordability, and more. The President has already made historic progress not only in America but around the world, and this is just the beginning as his agenda continues taking effect.”
In a survey taken by YouGov/The Economist last week, Trump’s overall approval rating was 35 percent, and his disapproval rating was 60 percent. The poll was taken from June 5 to June 8, 2026, among 1,568 U.S. adults, with a margin of error of 3.6 percent.
An Emerson College Polling survey shows Trump’s overall approval rating at 39 percent versus a 55 percent disapproval rating. The poll was taken from June 7 to June 8, 2026, among 1,200 likely voters and had a margin of error of 2.8 percent.
