Trump Says He Paused Planned Attack on Iran After Gulf States’ Request – The Diplomatic Insight
Washington (TDI): US President Donald Trump has said he paused plans for a potential military strike on Iran, stating that the decision came after requests from several Gulf states as diplomatic efforts appear to be gaining momentum.
In remarks posted on his Truth Social account, Trump said leaders from Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates had urged him to hold off on the planned attack, arguing that “serious negotiations” were now underway between the involved parties. He added that any emerging agreement would be “very acceptable” to the United States and insisted that Iran must not be allowed to obtain nuclear weapons.
At the same time, Trump issued a warning that Washington could quickly resume large-scale military action against Iran if negotiations fail to produce an acceptable deal.
The announcement comes amid heightened tensions following ongoing hostilities between Iran and US-Israeli forces that escalated earlier this year. The conflict has included airstrikes, missile exchanges, and regional security disruptions, raising concerns among Gulf countries about potential retaliation on their infrastructure and energy systems.
Trump also said there was a “good chance” of reaching a diplomatic breakthrough, adding that he would prefer a negotiated solution over further military escalation. However, he acknowledged that previous rounds of talks had failed despite approaching agreement.

Meanwhile, Iranian officials have continued to signal resistance to US demands while maintaining that discussions are still ongoing through indirect channels, including mediation efforts involving Pakistan.
Public opinion in the United States appears divided over the conflict, with recent polling suggesting a majority of voters oppose the decision to go to war, reflecting growing political pressure on the administration as it heads toward key domestic electoral challenges.

The situation remains fluid, with both sides maintaining pressure while simultaneously leaving space for diplomacy, particularly over the sensitive issue of Iran’s nuclear program and its enrichment capabilities.
