Mississippi backs Trump more than nation as his approval numbers slide – The Clarion-Ledger
President Donald Trump‘s national disapproval rating has hit a new high, according to a new poll.
In the latest Washington Post-ABC News-Ipsos poll, Trump’s disapproval rating hit 62%. That’s an all-time high in the survey’s history throughout both his terms in office.
The high disapproval rating came alongside souring opinions on the president‘s handling of the Iran war, the economy and cost of living. He has consistently been polling poorly on those issues over the last few months.
Trump’s overall approval rating in the new survey is 37%, dropping two points from the pollster’s February figures. The most recent survey was conducted among 2,560 U.S. adults, April 24-28. The margin of error is ±2.2 percentage points.
It’s a few points higher than a recent Reuters/Ipsos poll released April 28. It put the president at a dismal 34% approval rating, a record low in that survey’s history.
Presidential approval ratings indicate how much people like the work the president is doing. Results let politicians know which policies voters support and which ones they hate.
Specifically, the Washington Post/Ipsos poll showed Trump’s approval slipping on:
Recently, his approval rating in Mississippi was lower than his disapproval. There’s been some rebound for the president, but the numbers are still close.
Trump has a 49% approval rating in Mississippi, according to polling data from Civiqs. His disapproval rating is 46%, and 6% neither approve nor disapprove, as of May 4.
That’s a rebound from a few weeks ago when the polling site showed he had a -1% approval rating that started around March 29. It was the lowest ever for the state.

Trump started this term with about a 55% approval rating in the Magnolia State when he was sworn in. Approximately 42% disapproved.
Mississippi gave Trump an approval rating ranging from 52% to 56% in his first term, according to Civiqs. The disapproval rating ranged from about 41% to 45%.
Here’s how the president’s overall approval ratings look:
Favorability polling is different. It focuses on how voters feel about the person in general.
National Civiqs’ favorability data shows 58% of voters have a negative outlook on the president. About 39% of people viewed him favorably as of May 4. Mississippi poll results mirror the national numbers.
YouGov’s poll for The Economist says Trump stands at 56.1% unfavorable, 42.5% favorable, and 1.4% don’t know as of April 20.
