President Donald Trump’s approval rating among Hispanic Americans has risen to 37 percent, according to a poll released Tuesday by The Economist/YouGov, marking an improvement among the demographic.
The latest result represents Trump’s strongest approval rating among Hispanics in the series since a poll from early last month, which found his approval at 40 percent with the voting bloc.
Latino voters played a significant role in Trump’s 2024 election victory. While Democrats continued to win a majority of Hispanic voters nationally, Trump made notable gains with the demographic compared with previous Republican nominees. Because of those shifts, Trump’s standing with Hispanic Americans remains closely watched by both parties, and the latest poll suggests he has regained some ground with a constituency that was critical to his return to the White House.
Trump’s approval rating with Hispanics is 37 percent versus a 59 percent disapproval rating, according to The Economist/YouGov poll, with his overall approval rating at 39 percent versus 56 percent disapproval. The survey was taken from June 13 to June 15 among 1,549 U.S. adults and has a margin of error of 3.5 percent.
In a survey last week by the pollster, Trump’s approval rating with Hispanics was 31 percent versus a 62 percent disapproval rating. The week before, his approval with the group was 33 percent versus 67 percent disapproval. In another taken from May 22 to May 26 by the pollster, Trump’s approval among the bloc was 23 percent and his disapproval mark was 66 percent.
When reached for comment about the new poll, White House Spokeswoman Allison Schuster told Newsweek on Tuesday, “President Trump was honored to receive a record level of support from Hispanic Americans that helped fuel his landslide 2024 election victory, and he’s spent every day since his inauguration working to make life better for them, and all Americans.
“From passing the largest middle-class tax cuts in American history, including No Tax on Tips, Overtime, and Social Security, to defeating Biden’s inflation crisis, hardworking Hispanic Americans are beginning to have some breathing room after four years of economic pain under the Democrats. There’s much more work to do, which is why President Trump and Republicans in Congress will continue fighting to make everyday life more affordable for working families.”
Previous polling during Trump’s second term showed Hispanic support of Trump waning amid his administration’s aggressive immigration enforcement agenda and mixed economic signals.
Florida State University political science professor Andrew Ballard told Newsweek in April in part, when asked about low support with the group earlier this year and if it was concerning—compared to losing the backing of millennials and independents.
“Hispanic voters have certainly been important to President Trump’s electoral success, but it’s hard for me to rank the importance of groups that have so much overlap between them,” Ballard said. “Thinking in the terms of your question (race), white voters are still by far the most important for Republican electoral efforts.”
A Napolitan News Service Survey conducted by Scott Rasmussen shows Trump’s overall approval rating is 42 percent with a 56 percent disapproval rating. The poll was taken from June 3 to June 11 among 3,000 registered voters, with a margin of error of 1.8 percent.
In an Emerson College Polling survey, Trump’s approval rating among Hispanics is 29.5 percent compared to a 65 percent disapproval rating. The president’s overall approval rating was 39.4 percent versus 54.6 percent disapproval. The poll was taken on June 7 and June 8 among 1,200 likely voters, with a margin of error of 2.8 percent.
