JACKSON, Ga. (WTOC) – Georgia’s GOP Senate runoff is nearly over.
Mike Collins and Derek Dooley are facing off to win the Peach State’s Republican votes and battle current Democratic Sen. Jon Ossoff in November’s midterms.
Republicans are hoping to flip Georgia’s Senate seat from blue to red this November. The race has gotten President Donald Trump’s attention.
Collins, a current Georgia congressman, is focusing his campaign on America First policies and backing President Trump. Collins earned the president’s endorsement just days ago.
Trump took to Truth Social to endorse the congressman and emphasize the importance of replacing Ossoff.
Trump’s post read in part, “Mike Collins is a true Friend, Fighter, and WARRIOR, who has been with us from the very beginning, and has my Complete and Total Endorsement to be your next United States Senator.”
Trump also addressed Collins’ opponent Derek Dooley in his statement, saying he does not know Dooley but “Unfortunately, he has lived outside of Georgia for most of his life, didn’t vote in 2020 or 2016.”
“Makes it a big honor when somebody gives you their confidence and you know fully complete endorsement support for this race,” Collins said. “He knows how important this race is just like the people in the state of Georgia making sure that we get someone in that Senate seat that actually flex the state of Georgia and the people that they serve.”
Collins’ watch party kicks off as polls close at 7 p.m.
