(Washington, DC) – Elon Musk is weighing in on another cultural fight, this time questioning where Hollywood and entertainment companies should draw the line on race-conscious casting.
Musk reacted to the idea of casting a Black woman as a traditionally White character from foundational European literature, asking whether the same standard would be accepted in reverse.
His argument centers on consistency. Musk suggested that if audiences would reject a White actor portraying a major African historical figure such as Shaka Zulu, then it is fair to ask whether classic European characters should also be treated with cultural or historical boundaries.
Supporters say Musk is calling out a double standard in entertainment. Critics will likely argue that casting decisions can be creative, symbolic and not always bound by race or historical appearance.
