PORTLAND (WGME) — Senator Susan Collins says the Trump administration is ignoring the Constitution when it comes to Iran.
She spoke Wednesday after touring an electronics manufacturing and design company in Gray.
The U.S. joined Israel in its attacks on Iran in February.
Collins points out that the President had discretionary powers in the first 60 days, but after that time, he needed to go to Congress for war authorization.
Recently, the U.S. launched multiple attacks on Iranian missile sites, despite an ongoing ceasefire.
"It was clear that the administration was proceeding without much attention being paid to the War Powers Act,” Collins said. “So I voted to cease hostilities in the hope it would encourage negotiations that are now ongoing."
The Senate voted to limit the President's war powers, but so far, the House hasn't taken up it up.
