TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Republican Party of Florida Chairman Evan Power expressed confidence that his party can defy historical midterm election trends by highlighting President Donald Trump’s record and Republican achievements in Congress, warning that Democratic gains could lead to impeachment efforts against the president.
Speaking on Florida’s Voice Radio with host Drew Steele, Power said the GOP is focused on bucking the traditional disadvantage faced by the party holding the White House during midterm elections.
“I believe if we sell the president’s record and Republican’s record in Congress, we will defy history!” Power said.

Power made the comments following the Republican National Committee’s spring training in Miami, where party leaders aimed to align on strategy for the upcoming midterms. He emphasized following Trump’s lead, noting the president’s success in recent primaries.
The chairman framed the 2026 elections as critical for the future of Trump’s agenda.
“It’s a fight for the soul of our nation,” Power said. “This election is important because the question is should President Trump be a two-year president or a four-year president? If we allow the Democrats to gain control, the first thing they’ll do is impeach this president.”

Power argued that Democrats would seek to stall Trump’s initiatives if they secure majorities in Congress. He pointed to what he described as the damage from the previous administration under former President Joe Biden, including economic challenges and border issues.
“We want to buck the trend, so to speak, during an administration with a president who did the same exact thing in 2016,” Steele added, referencing Trump’s unexpected victory despite polling predictions.
Power predicted Republicans would maintain their congressional majority and pick up additional seats in Florida, allowing Trump to serve a full four-year term focused on the American people.
The remarks come amid ongoing efforts by Florida Republicans to strengthen their position in the state, which has trended increasingly red in recent election cycles. Power has served as state party chair since January 2024.
