A Reuters/Ipsos poll showed that 66% of Americans do not understand the goals of a war with Iran. Due to the conflict, gasoline prices in the US have risen by 50 percent.
Two-thirds of Americans believe that US President Donald Trump has failed to clearly explain the objectives of American involvement in the war with Iran. This is evidenced by the results of a new Reuters/Ipsos poll, UNN reports.
According to the study, 66% of respondents stated that the White House has not sufficiently explained the reasons and tasks of the military campaign against Iran. This view is held by almost all Democrats and approximately one-third of Republican voters.
At the same time, Trump’s approval rating has risen slightly after an April decline. Currently, 36% of Americans support him, compared to 34% a month earlier. However, this is still lower than the 40% he held before the conflict began.
One of the main reasons for dissatisfaction was the war’s impact on the economy. Due to the hostilities and Iran’s effective blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, gasoline prices in the US have risen by approximately 50%.
63% of those surveyed stated that the increase in fuel prices has already hit their families’ financial situation. Another 80% of Americans expect further price increases in the near future.

The poll also showed that 65% of respondents place the primary responsibility for the situation on the Republican Party, while only 27% of study participants blamed the Democrats.
Against the backdrop of high fuel prices, about a third of Americans said they might reduce or cancel summer trips altogether if the situation does not change.
For Republicans, the poll results could be a worrying signal ahead of the midterm Congressional elections in the fall. Despite a slight increase in Trump’s rating, the economic consequences of the war with Iran remain one of the main factors of voter dissatisfaction.
