Impeachment of the Day: Massie Claims of Improper Pressure and Retaliation Applied Against Boebert/Colorado – Daily Kos

Not long ago I published an article making the case that Congress has a duty to impeach, or at least draft articles of impeachment, for Trump and his administration for every crime and abuse of power they commit. Today, Democratic leadership holds that impeaching Trump looks petty and political to voters and they are better off focusing on “kitchen table issues” like affordability. While I can’t claim to understand the average voter’s perceptions, I do know that NOT responding to crimes and abuses with duly drafted articles unequivocally IS a political decision. I further believe that Democrats, by actually behaving politically in this way, feed into Trump’s corrosive narrative, that the claims against him are mere political statements, made by purely political actors, who oppose him simply because he is so much better at “politics” than they are. After all, if he were really committing impeachable offenses every day, they would have an affirmative DUTY to draft articles of impeachment against him which would transcend political decision making.
In fairness, Representative Al Green of Texas and a few others have drafted and submitted some articles of impeachment for some of Trump’s most egregious offenses. But these are few and don’t nearly keep pace with the daily lawlessness we see from this administration.
I believe/hope that the democrats in Congress will eventually come around to taking a position of moral leadership (which is what this country needs), rather than political pandering, but, until then I will volunteer my effort to do what I feel should be done – attempt to keep up with, and document for proper investigation, the myriad high-crimes, abuses, and misdemeanors of this corrupt and lawless administration.
Members of Congress are welcome to use, modify, correct, revise, etc. these as their conscience dictates.
Coming to this effort quite late, I’ll do what I can in no particular order. I’ll start today with Trump’s conduct based on the specific claims made by Republican congressman Thomas Massie in this interview with Tucker Carlson.
Well, well, well…Trump vetoed Colorado water bill because Lauren Boebert wanted to release Epstein files
Against Donald J. Trump, President of the United States
Article I
Abuse of Power and Corrupt Use of the Presidential Veto Power
In his conduct as President of the United States, Donald J. Trump, in violation of his constitutional oath faithfully to execute the office of President of the United States and, to the best of his ability, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States, did engage in a corrupt abuse of the powers of the Presidency.
Using the powers of his office for personal and political protection rather than legitimate public purposes, Donald J. Trump allegedly sought to pressure and coerce Members of Congress into withdrawing support from a congressional discharge petition concerning the release of records and materials related to Jeffrey Epstein and associated investigations.
Specifically, credible public allegations have been made by Representative Thomas Massie that Donald J. Trump used, threatened to use, or directed the use of presidential authority over legislation affecting water infrastructure and water access for the people of the State of Colorado in order to pressure Representative Lauren Boebert to remove or withhold support for such discharge petition.
If proven, such conduct would constitute:
The House of Representatives therefore directs that the Senate conduct a full impeachment trial and investigation into:
The Senate should compel, under oath, testimony and production of documents from:
Wherefore, Donald J. Trump, by such conduct, warrants impeachment and trial, and, upon conviction, removal from office and disqualification to hold and enjoy any office of honor, trust, or profit under the United States.
Article II
Obstruction of Congressional Functions and Attempted Witness or Legislative Tampering
Donald J. Trump, using the powers of the Presidency, did attempt to improperly influence and interfere with the independent constitutional judgment of Members of Congress.
Rather than permitting Members of the House of Representatives to exercise their legislative responsibilities freely and according to conscience and constitutional duty, Donald J. Trump allegedly sought to manipulate legislative conduct through threats involving executive action and federal governmental power.
Such alleged conduct, if proven, would constitute:
The House therefore calls upon the Senate to investigate whether Donald J. Trump or his agents:
In all of this, Donald J. Trump acted in a manner contrary to his trust as President and subversive of constitutional government, to the manifest injury of the people of the United States.
Wherefore, Donald J. Trump warrants impeachment and trial, and, upon conviction, removal from office and disqualification from future office.
