Trump, Tuberville have high favorability among Alabama Republicans, poll shows – Alabama Daily News

President Donald Trump and U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville remain popular among Republican primary voters in Alabama, according to a Cygnal poll commissioned by Alabama Daily News and Gray Television stations.
The findings show that 79% of likely GOP primary voters have a favorable opinion of Trump, while about 20% have an unfavorable view of the president. His net favorability rating is 60%.

That contrasts with Trump’s national approval ratings. A Marist poll from Wednesday found that 37% of Americans approve of the president’s overall job performance. While 59% disapprove, and 4% are unsure.
Alabama Republicans don’t have quite as favorable an opinion of Tuberville as they do of Trump. But the gubernatorial candidate still has strong support, according to the poll of 500 likely primary voters conducted from April 29-30.
About 69% of respondents said they have a favorable opinion of Tuberville and 23% said they have an unfavorable opinion of the senator. Six percent said they have no opinion and about 1% said they have never heard of him.
Tuberville’s net favorability rating is 47%.

Out of the four major media markets in the state, Huntsville voters have the least favorable opinion of both Trump and Tuberville, though their numbers are still high. In north Alabama, 70% of polled voters have a favorable view of Trump and 28% have an unfavorable opinion.
In Birmingham, Montgomery and Mobile, voters all had at least an 81% favorable opinion of the president.
For Tuberville, 62% of polled Huntsville voters have a favorable opinion and 31% have an unfavorable opinion. In the other three markets, Tuberville’s favorability rating is between 70-73%. The gubernatorial hopeful’s unfavorability rating ranges from 19-22% in Birmingham, Montgomery, and Mobile.
Republicans who consider themselves extremely or very conservative have a more favorable opinion of both Trump and Tuberville. Somewhat conservative or moderate voters have a less favorable view of both Republicans.

The poll’s margin of error is ±4.38%.
