Today, US President Donald Trump is celebrating his 80th birthday. He has already become the oldest American leader in history.
Are there age restrictions for presidents in the US? — RBC-Ukraine explains.
At the time of his second election as US president in 2024, Trump was already 78 years old. In doing so, he broke the record of his predecessor Joe Biden, who was elected president at the age of 77.

The US Constitution only sets a minimum age requirement for being elected president: 35 years old. There is no upper age limit.
So if Trump serves his full presidential term through January 2029, he will be 83 years old by then. In doing so, he will again break Joe Biden’s record, who was 82 years old when he left office.
For comparison, the youngest US president, Theodore Roosevelt (1901–1909), took office at the age of 42.
There are even older figures than Trump in the top tier of American politics today. For example, Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley is already 92 years old, has been continuously serving in the Senate since 1981, and his current term will last until early 2029.
